It's the holiday season once again and in typical holiday fashion people are getting those elaborate light displays set up and lit up for your enjoyment. More and more families celebrate the holiday season by taking an evening to tour these wonderful displays of holiday spirit. Evalu8.org would like to help plan their outings by compiling a list of addresses, photos and info on all the best light displays in BC, the Lower Mainland, Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest.

To have your residence or business included on this list, please provide the street address, city, and a brief description of unique features or charitable efforts. These can be e-mailed to christmaslights@telus.net.

Please include a contact phone number (will not be published!) and -- even if you send us a fax -- an e-mail address, if you have one, so we can contact you more easily next year for an update.

Are you in BC, Vancouver or the Pacific Northwest? Want to show off YOUR Christmas display? Send details -- and a SMALL jpeg, if you have one -- to christmaslights@telus.net, and we'll add them to our list!

And if you find your display on this list, please contact us if you see any errors, omissions or typos so we can fix them right away. Again, the address is: christmaslights@telus.net.

Burnaby

They are now in their 4th year of lights, increasing by 1000-1500 lights per year. The O'Neil family writes: "We're back bringing more light to Burnaby ... better than ever this year. We are now in our 6th year of going all out to bring some Christmas color to the neighbourhood. This year, we are adding a thousand more lights (over 10,000 now) to our display of reindeer, snowman, penguin, Santas, and other Christmas figures, as well as a new eight-foot Snowglobe and a light canopy over the wheelchair ramp. Starting December 1, we will usually have the lights turned on from 4:30 - 10:00 weekdays, and later on weekends. Our rustic front yard is always open for walkthroughs and picture-taking. These pictures are from last year; we will post newer ones fairly soon."

Despite the weather ... we made it ... better than ever this year. My handicap has slowed me down a lot, especially when there is snow on the ground, but my wife and middle 13-year old daughter have taken over what I can't manage.

Our 6th year sees us up over 15,000 lights now. And, as usual, we rearrange our display so it's always a new experience walking through our rustic front yard every year. Great setup for taking lots of pictures.

We have added lots more color, more different styles of lights, penguins toboganning down a snowslope, carousel, Christmas train, and ... well ... you are just going to have to come out to see it.

Also this year, you will probably be greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus ... with candy canes for the kids.

Our thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC for allowing us to collect donations for this awesome charity.

Weeknights until 9:30 ... later on weekends.

These pics are preliminary snapshots taken a few days ago, but we have added lots more lights 'n stuff since then. We will have proper ones later this week. Please help us draw a great crowd this year, especially now that we have selected a local charity for a donation box. We are in Burnaby, 2 blocks north of Broadway and 3 blocks east of Sperling.

In addition to once again converting the front of the house into a giant Santa Claus face and many trees decked out in a multitude of colourful lights, they have converted an 8-foot high Weeping Norway Spruce into Rudoph. Needless to say, not your normal reindeer. No purchased forms used. It is more a piece of "art," using lights as the medium. They were written up in The Record as a "must see" last year, so this year they got them up a little earlier. Haven't done a light count, but they estimate 3-4000. No charity--- it's just their Christmas gift to the neighbourhood. Actually, they tell us their whole strip of 7th Ave is pretty colourful. - Audrey & Steve Barnes

Photo: The display from Leo's house (2006) grows every year.

This one -- according to a friend of the homeowner -- gets better every year. Here's what the owner's daughter wrote to us this year: "Leo's house is in my opinion one of the best Christmas Light Displays ever because it is done with so much love and puts smiles on the faces of everyone who visits (of course I could be a bit biased due to the fact that he is my dad (& the best one at that!).

"This Display of aprox 50,000 lights along with the many inflatables, characters & interactive things for children to play with, is done by one man with one of the biggest hearts ever!!! We love him so much and are thankful that he takes the time (about 110 hours to set up the display, not to mention the hours & hours it takes to check each string before he sets them out) to make this display each and every year a bit more spectacular than the one before.

"Our family has had so much fun over the past years being involved in what is now known as the Annual Santa Picture & Hot Chocolate Nite.

"This year Santa is coming on Saturday, December 15th from 7-10pm, so please join us & get a free picture with Santa and enjoy a complimentary Hot Chocolate.
